I come across this article Lessons To Lean from the OLPC from slashdot which details the features of the One Laptop Per Child Project (OLPC) unit. OLPC is an education project founded by Nicholas Negroponte to produce very affordable laptops at $100 – cheap enough to spur “Buy 1 and Give 1″ program for the Third World Countries. Don’t let the cost fool you. It comes with lots of features like built-in webcam and Wi-Fi. Anyone contemplating to give or donate computers, I highly recommend OLPC. It’s cheaper and more suitable for kid’s education. Although this is a Linux laptop to keep its cost down, the kids will also be shielded from getting addicted to Windows PC games, which I think very important for parents.
I’ve used computers since Apple II, automated machines, Windows and Unix. I’ve learned all of them by self-study. For me, computer science and IT students will learn more about computer system using Linux rather than Windows. The source code (the program written by programmers) in Windows are kept secret by Microsoft. But for Linux, everything is accessible and open.
yes i am looking forward to this project but i feel the laptops should have few more features !
no question about it since OLPC has limited expansion options
